original recipe 1

caramel apple pancakes

ingredients:
1) 1 cored and skinned apple finely chopped
2) 2 cup flour
3) 1 and 1/2 cup milk
4) 1 egg
5) a pinch of sugar (optional)
6) caramel (from bottle or jar)

method:
1)begin by finely chopping cored nad skinned apple, then place in a bowl
2) mix the flour, milk, egg and optional, a pinch of sugar
3) on light-medium heat, pour batter into the pan and then sprinkle a desored amount of apple onto the top of the liquid batter
4) flip pancake and allow a few minutes for the apple to cook into the pancake
5) repeat steps for cooking pancakes
6) place desired amount of pancakes on plate and drizzle caramel onto them.

remarks/comments on the tested product: the pancakes were quite blend without the caramel. the pancakes were also burnt as i waited for too long before fipping them. as it was burnt, the pancake was black and brown.

areas for improvement:
i thought that i should add apple juice in the batter to make the pancake itself sweet without the help of the caramel. but i also thought that i should change the cramel to aple syrup as maple syrup can be easily found in the supermarkets.



modified recipe 1
apple pancakes with maple syrup

ingredients

1) 1 cored and skinned finely chopped apple
2) 2 cup flour
3) 1 and 1/2 cup milk
4) 1/4 cup apple juice
5) 1 egg
6) pinch of sugar (optional)
7) maple syrup

method:
1) begin by finely chopping the cored and skinned apple, hen place in a bowl
2) mix the flour, milk, egg, apple juice and sugar(optional) together to make a fine batter
3) on light-medium heat, pour batter into the pan and then sprinle a desired amount of apple onto the top of the still liquid batter
4) flip pancake and allow a few minutes for the apple to set into the pancake
5)repeat the steps for cooking pancakes
6) place the desied amount of pancakes on plate and drizzle maple syrup on them.

how is the product different than before. areas for improvement this product had more flavour to it in the pancake itself than th original one. in the previous pancakes, they wer burnt however in this product, they were not burnt and had a nice appearance to it.
i think that i need to keep the size of the pancake the same as it looked weird with all the different sizes.

1) 4 potatoes thinly sliced
2) 1/2 cup chopped onion
3) 1/2 cup chopped greedn capsicum
4) 1/2 cup mushrooms, sliced
5) 2 eggs

method:
1) slice/ chop all ingredients
2) beat the eggs
3) start by placing in onion followed by potaoes
4) once potatoes turn golden brown, mix in the rest of the ingredients
5) mix in the eggs until brown
6) place onto plate

remarks/comments on the dish:
i think that it was a bit blend and there is not much taste to it. i also think that the appearance is a bit ull and there is not much colour to it. the potato is too hard and not soft and it is too thick. i think that the appearance is okay in a sense that it should be like the wayit is instead of something else.

areas for improvement
i think that i should lice the potaotes more thinly as tehy were too thick and took a longer time to cook. as a result, the potatoes were too hard.i also think that the egg was too blend so i should add oregano spice to it to give the egg a richer flavour.




modified recipe 2

ingredients
1) 4 potatoes thinly sliced
2) 1/2 cup chopped onion
3) 1/2 cup chopped green capsicum
4) 1/2 cup mushrooms, sliced
5) 2 eggs
6) oregano spice
method
1) slice and chop all ingredients
2) beat the egg
3) place the onion into frying pan followed by potatoes
4) once potatoes turn golden brown, mix in the rest of the ingredients
5) add egg when ingredients turn glden brown
6) add in oregano spice after adding in eggs
7) place egg onto plate

how is the product different from the original one. any modifications to be made
this time, the product is uch tastier than the previous one as i added more onion and green capsicum to make a nicer flavour. also, if the egg is eaten alone, it is tastierthan before s i add oregano spice. this gives the egg a ncer flavour and it is not blend.
i think that it is a bit burnt thus i should use a non-stick pan as when i practicedit at home, it was not so burnt compared to cooking it in school

evaluation on entire coursework

for this entire coursework, i felt that it was very enriching for my.i was able to learn new skills like, how to analysise the survey, how to modify recipe, how to know the nutrional value for the recipe, how to make decision on which dish to choose from and how to make a blog. learning all this skills are very important as it willbe able to help us in the future.

through this coursework, i found out that most people do not eat breakfast as they have either no time or too lazy to fix their own breakfast. obviously this is very bad as breakfast is the most important meal of the day. most people think that dinner is the most important meal thus they tend to eat more during dinner than breakfast. however this is not true as breakfast is the most important meal. therefore, we hould try to change our bad habits and encourage one anotheer to start eating breakfast or for those who do not eat breakfast at all to start eating.

i was also able to find out my strengths and weakness in cooking and other areas that are connected to researching. i feel that it is important to know one's strengths and weaknesses as we will be able to improve on our weaknesses and use our strengths to help other people who are not so good in that particular area. it is also important that we ask our peers to give u their opinion on our dish as we will be able to make improvement on our dished to make it more appetizing. if we do not ask for their opinion or their opinion is not tru and just ip service, then we will not be able to learn from our mistakes and correct them. thus it is highyl important that we be honest to our peers and to oneself.

trought this cousework, i was able to improve on the timing of my flip of the egg and i was able to learn if the ingredients were properly cooked or not. i learn that to be ble to be good in something, we need experience, the more we practice the more skillful we will become thus everyone should practice more in their own time if they want to improve.

the recipe i did for my home economics practical exam is called FREEDOM SCRAMBLE...... i chose this over the first dish which was CARAMEL APPLE PANCAKE as

1) it is healthier than then the first recipe
2) felt that it was easir for me to cook it than the pancakes

Recipe on FREEDOM SCRAMBLE
ingredients:
-4 potatoes thinly sliced
-2 eggs
-1/2 cup chopped mushroom
-1/2 cup chopped onion
-1/2 a green capsicum, chopped
-a dash oregano spice

garnishing:

-2 slices of the bottom of green,red and yellow capsicum
-1 green apple
-a bunch of grapes
-apple juice
-honey mustard(optional)
-barbecue sauce(optional)

method:
1) place the onion into the frying pan add in the potatoes.
2) add in the capsicum and mushroom
3) add a dash of oregano spice
4) add in the eggs when all ingredients are nicely cooked
5) once the egg is done, place them onto the capsicum.

take out the seeds in the capsicum and chop it into cubes

slice the mushrooms thinly

DESCRIPTION ON THE DISH

appearance: i felt that my dish was quite nicely designed and colourful but the egg was a bit burnt and there were patches of brown and black. besides the main dish, i also addeda cup of apple juice and a small dish of fruits which mainly consisted of green apple and grapes. for the main dish, i cut out flower shapes from the bottom of the green,red and yellow capsicum. i overlapped them and placed the scramble eggs into it. i also used honey mustard and barbecue sauce for decoration and it also goes well wih the egg and raw capsicm. tomato and chili sauce can also be used according to one's taste prefereces.

mouthfeel: i felt that the dish was cunchy and soft at the same time. hard because of the capsicum and potato, soft because of the egg and the other ingredients.

Taste: i felt that the taste was quite okay despite the burnt parts. it had a bit a bit of herbal taste as i added oregano spice. the raw capsicum didn't have much taste but it went well with the sauces.

texture: it was smooth and bumpy at the same time. smooth due to th egg and bumby mainly becuse of the cpsicum, potato and mushroom. but it was mostly bumpy.


MISTAKES: i brunt the bottom of the egg as i left the egg on the pan for too long.. the fire was too big so i overestimated the timing to flip the egg. also, while cooking the egg for the second time i forgot to beat the eggs first before cooking the other ingredients. therfore i had to stop the fire to beat the eggs and then relit the gas again. i alo did not follow the time plan exactly as some of the steps took a longer time than he time i allocated to do it and some were done faster then the time i allocated to it.

STRENGTHS & WEAKNESSES:
strength: i felt that m strentgh was that i was able to design the dish and thought that i did quite a good job in designing it. i also did not have difficulty cutting the ingredients as im used to doing it. taking out the seeds in the capsicum was a no brainer.

weaknesses: i felt that i had difficulty in adjusting the timing for flipping the dish. i aso didn't know if the ingrediens were cooked properly without getting it burnt. i also had difficulty in modifing the recipe as it was difficult to change and create new ideas to improve the recipe besides omitting something to make the dish healthier.

difficulties: i had difficulty keeping the egg from not being burnt and the timing to flip the egg. i had difficulty knowing if he ingredients are cooked or not.

how to overcome it: i had to constantly check the sides of the egg to see if it was done properly and not burnt or it still neede more time to be cooked. i tried to keep the ingredient that i'm cooking from being burnt before adding the other ingredients by letting it turn to a light golden brown, then added the rest of the ingredients. i also tried the ingredients to see if they were cooked properly.

what i would have done differently if i could dod it again: i would have made the dish more healthy like using the egg white only instead of using the whole egg. i would have changed the capsicum for garnishing to wholemeal bread as it is easier to suit people's taste than the capsicum. wholemeal bread is also heathy.

PRACTICAL EXAM. CHOSEN RECIPE: SURPRISE FRUIT SALAD.(MODIFIED NO. 2 lol)

Ok, so the reason why I chose to do the fruit salad and not the french toast was because: no.1-Its waaaaaaaaaayy easier to make.

no.2-I do not need to worry about burning it.(huge worry when it comes to the french toast)

no.3-Its done reeaaaaaaalllly FAST!( which, in my opinion, is essential for breakfast with us rushing off to school and all )

no.4-Its delicious!(especially with the chocolate. we teens need the heavenly sweetness[wakes us up too])

no.5-It not only tastes good but looks good too.(come on, would you seriously want to eat something that looks completely grotesque *cough* my french toast *cough* or something that looks completely awesome with so many colours *cough* my salad DUH! *cough*?)

no.6- I got to confess, IM TOO LAZY TO MAKE THE OTHER RECIPE! BESIDES, JUST THINKING ABOUT WASHING THAT FRYING PAN IS ENOUGH TO GIVE ME NIGHTMARES!

And so, those are my 6 reasons as to why I chose to do my salad recipe and not my french toast recipe :) Now moving on...

1. Preparations



2. Ingredients include:

-1 snickers bar
-1 banana
-1 pear
-1 apple
-whipped cream

3. Prepare salt water first.


4. Chop up snickers bar.





5. Slice up banana.( I didn't manage to get a good banana this time round. It was too ripe.)






6. Chop up the pear and put the pieces into the salt water immediately.




7. Chop up the apple and put the pieces into the salt water immediately.



8. After all the chopping and slicing is done, rearrange the fruits and chocolate nicely on the plate.( I got the plate from school )




9. Put the whipped cream in the middle.

10. First serving done!


11. Repeat steps 8 and 9 again to get the second serving done. Then start on the table arrangements.



(Adelia lent me some of her grapes to put as decoration. Too bad the grapes sunk into the whipped cream)



And so, the exam was over. I did not get to take picture of all the wash-ups as I didn't think they were necessary. Also, for some reason, this time I didn't get as much time as I usually have. Anyway, sorry for some of the bad quality pictures as there were a few moments of black out so the lighting wasn't good. I think the appearance of the dish was good and of course, it tastes good too!:P I chose this way to present my dish because the tablecloth gives me a beach feeling and I think that the salad should go with the beach theme as it is a light meal and also when you have picnics on the beach, you can't bring full-course meals so yeah. I also chose those forks because a salad is really simple and anything too extravagant would be weird and also it doesn't go with the beach theme.
